The Family Star

The Family Star is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language romantic action drama movie. It was written and directed by Parasuram and produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations. The film stars Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur in the main roles.

The movie was officially announced in February 2023 with the working title VD11, as it is Vijay’s 11th film as the lead actor. The official title, The Family Star, was revealed in October 2023. Filming started in July 2023 and took place in various locations, including Hyderabad and New York. The music for the film was composed by Gopi Sundar.

Initially, The Family Star was supposed to be released during the Sanskrit festival but was postponed to avoid competition with Sankranthi films. Critics gave the movie mostly negative reviews, criticizing Parasuram’s writing and direction, the weak comedy, the predictable plot, the soundtrack, and the performances of the lead actors. The movie did not do well at the box office, earning only ₹19.78–23.20 crore against a budget of ₹50 crore.

The Family Star Movie Storyline

Present: Indu (Mrunal Thakur) sits sadly in the middle of a ceremony. When someone asks why she looks so upset, she starts telling a story about her past.

Past: Govardhan (Vijay Devarakonda) is a caring family man who works hard at his job to support his family. He also has problems with his brother, who drinks too much. One day, he meets Indu when she moves into his space. Indu and his family become friends quickly, and soon, Govardhan and Indu fall in love. After a big incident, Govardhan makes up with his brother when their mother tells Indu that the brother was mad because Govardhan had shamed him.

However, things take a turn when Govardhan finds out about Indu’s thesis on his family and him. Feeling betrayed, he slaps her and vows to teach her a lesson. He goes to a former job offeror, Jagapathi Babu, and asks to join the company, requesting a big advance. He uses the money to prove Indu’s thesis wrong. Later, he finds out that Indu is actually the daughter of the company head. Annoyed, he stays in the company but demands everything that Indu gets. When he finds out his flight tickets weren’t paid for, Indu helps him by giving money for his family. They fall in love again, but Indu overhears him talking badly about her to another woman, saying she’s not right for him. Heartbroken, Indu distances herself from him and leaves after telling him she heard what he said.

Present: Govardhan learns the true reason behind Indu’s thesis from her father. He rushes to stop a wedding, held for someone injured because of Govardhan, which, according to the person’s politician father, is the only thing that would make him feel better. Govardhan finds Indu at the wedding. With his mother’s help, he fights off the politician’s goons, wins back Indu, and marries her in the end.
