Trigger Warning

“Trigger Warning” is a 2024 American action thriller featuring Jessica Alba as a skilled Special Forces officer who inherits her father’s bar after his sudden death. She quickly finds herself clashing with a violent gang terrorizing her hometown. The film marks the English-language debut of director Mouly Surya and is penned by John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Halley Gross. Produced by Thunder Road Films and Lady Spitfire, the movie also stars Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso, and Anthony Michael Hall.

The spec script for “Trigger Warning” was initially acquired by Thunder Road Films in June 2016, with Netflix securing the film in May 2020. The cast was finalized in September 2021, and filming took place in New Mexico. Released by Netflix on June 21, 2024, the film received negative reviews from critics.

Trigger Warning Movie Storyline

Parker, a highly skilled CIA military combatant and investigator, is on a mission in Syria with her friend Spider when she gets a call from Jesse Swann, the sheriff of her hometown and her ex-lover, informing her that her father, Harry Calvo, has died in a mining accident.

Returning to Creation, New Mexico, for her father’s funeral and to settle affairs with his bar, Maria’s, Parker meets her friend and the bar’s manager, Mike. Investigating the mine, she deduces that Harry’s death was no accident. At a bar, she confronts Jesse’s younger brother Elvis and later rescues a hardware store owner from thieves.

Parker witnesses Elvis and his henchmen firing weapons and snooping around her family property. Spider’s investigation reveals that Elvis is a dark web arms dealer supplying terrorists. As Parker reconnects with Jesse, she meets his father, Senator Ezekiel Swann, who is running for reelection.

After Harry’s funeral, Spider informs Parker that Elvis’ men are trespassing in Harry’s mine. She confronts them, leading to her bar being burned down, the death of a henchman, and her arrest.

Jesse confronts Elvis, revealing that Elvis used Harry’s mine to steal weapons from a nearby military depot, secretly funneling them to arms dealers to fund Ezekiel’s campaign and Jesse’s sheriff ambitions. When Harry discovered this, Jesse killed him, and the Swanns staged it as a mine collapse. Ezekiel orders the arms dealing to continue and has Jesse kill Parker’s lawyer.

Jesse ties up and assaults Parker in the holding cells, trying to get the bar’s security footage. Parker escapes in a police cruiser but crashes on Mike’s property. Mike and his mother hide her in his secret weed lab. After three days, Parker tries to warn the weapons depot about the thefts, but they dismiss her.

Determined, Parker gathers weapons with the help of family friends Mo and Frank to wage war on the Swanns. Ghost, a domestic terrorist who paid the Swanns for stolen weapons, is furious when they aren’t delivered due to Parker’s interference. Ezekiel admits he spent Ghost’s money on his campaign. Parker infiltrates the Swann compound, confronts Ezekiel, and kills him after getting answers about her father’s death.

Spider arrives at the mine to assist Parker but encounters Ghost’s thugs. Parker distracts them by exploding a weapons truck, allowing her and Spider to kill them before she stabs Elvis to death. Mo, Frank, and Parker’s family friends help her discover the military depot exit.

Jesse arrives with a grenade, desperate to regain control. Parker offers to help, but realizing there’s no happy ending, he shoves her away and blows himself up.

With the Swann family gone, Parker moves on with her life. A month later, she and Spider are driving cross-country back to their CIA jobs when Mike video calls, updating her on the progress of rebuilding and reopening Maria’s.
