“Rathnam” (transl. Gem) is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language action film directed by Hari, co-produced by Stone Bench Films, Zee Studios, and Invenio Origin. The film features Vishal in the lead role, with Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Yogi Babu, Murali Sharma, Hareesh Peradi, Mohan Raman, and Vijayakumar in supporting roles. This film marks the third collaboration between Vishal and Hari, following their work on “Thaamirabharani” and “Poojai.”
The film was officially announced in April 2023 under the tentative title “Vishal 34,” as it is Vishal’s 34th lead role. The official title “Rathnam” was revealed in December 2023. Principal photography began in July 2023, with shooting taking place in locations such as Thoothukudi, Trichy, Karaikudi, Vellore, Tirupati, and Chennai. Filming was completed by late January 2024. The music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad, with M. Sukumar handling cinematography and T. S. Jay responsible for editing.
Released on 26 April 2024, “Rathnam” received mixed reviews from critics and performed moderately well at the box office.
Rathnam serves as MLA Panner Selvam’s go-between. Rathnam becomes the girl’s guardian angel after saving her from a group of raucous people who try to kill her when she goes to Vellore for an interview. For how long can he keep her safe?

In the movie “Rathnam,” the main character, Rathnam, works as a henchman for an MLA named Panneer Selvam in Vellore. Rathnam takes on the responsibility of protecting Malliga, a medical student. Malliga looks a lot like Rathnam’s late mother, Loganayagi, which makes him feel very protective of her.
Malliga is being chased by a ruthless land grabber named Beema Rayudu and his brothers, Subba Rayudu and Raghava Rayudu. Rathnam has to fight to keep her safe from their relentless pursuit. The story follows his efforts to protect Malliga and the challenges he faces along the way.
