Parasite Movie

The plot of Bong Joon-ho’s 2019 South Korean dark comedy thriller “Parasite,” which he also co-produced and co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin-won, centres on a poor family breaking into an affluent one. The film is inspired by a play that Bong wrote in 2013, which was then turned into a 15-page film draft and developed into three more versions by Han. Other inspirations include the Korean film “The Housemaid” from 1960 and the Christine and Léa Papin event from the 1930s. From May to September 2018, the film was shot, and prominent participants included composer Jung Jae-il, film editor Yang Jin-mo, and cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo. English subtitles were provided for its international release by American film critic Darcy Paquet.

When “Parasite” debuted on May 21 at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, it became the first Korean film to win the Palme d’Or, making history. The film received praise for Bong’s direction, writing, editing, production design, and cast performances when it was released in South Korea on May 30. The movie brought in nearly $263 million worldwide, even with a meagre $15.5 million budget.

Four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film, were given out during the 92nd Academy Awards. “Parasite” is a noteworthy accomplishment for South Korean cinema as it is the first non-English film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. In addition, it took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Known as one of the greatest films of the decade and of all time, its story has sparked the creation of a TV show.

Parasite Movie Storyline

In the movie “Parasite,” the Kim family, who reside in a Seoul semi-basement apartment, struggles with money. They are able to get jobs working for the wealthy Park family through a number of ruses. The Kim family progressively infiltrates the Parks’ household in a variety of capacities, with Ki-woo initially working as an English instructor while pretending to be a university student.

When the Kims find an underground bunker in the Parks’ home, where Moon-gwang and her husband Geun-sae are living, their plans take a sinister turn. A violent altercation breaks out during a wild home party as tensions grow. After Ki-jung is slain, Ki-taek strikes and kills Mr. Park after becoming enraged about his response to Geun-sae’s stench.

A few weeks later, Ki-woo is recuperating from brain surgery and the other Kims are facing legal ramifications. Geun-sae is thought to be homeless, while Ki-taek’s whereabouts are unknown. When Ki-woo finds Ki-taek’s communications in Morse code from the bunker, he promises to make enough money to buy the house and set him free.

With a tragic and suspenseful tale of deception, desperation, and the human cost of attaining fortune, the film examines socioeconomic class discrepancies and the effects of societal injustices.
