Jawan, a thrilling Indian action film in Hindi, hit the screens in 2023, marking director Atlee’s debut in Bollywood. Produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma for Red Chillies Entertainment, the movie stars Shah Rukh Khan in a double role – as a father and son duo out to tackle corruption. The cast also includes Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone (in a special appearance), Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra in supporting roles.

Filming kicked off in September 2021 across various locations like Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Rajasthan, and Aurangabad. The film’s music, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and the visuals, captured by G. K. Vishnu, along with editing by Ruben, added to its appeal. Some scenes, especially those featuring Shah Rukh Khan in the song “Zinda Banda” (renamed “Vandha Edam” in Tamil), portions with Vijay Sethupathi, and scenes with Yogi Babu, were re-shot simultaneously for the Tamil version.

Originally set for a June 2, 2023 release, the film faced a delay due to ongoing post-production work. It finally hit theaters on September 7, 2023, showcasing in standard, IMAX, 4DX, and other premium formats, coinciding with Janmashtami. Critics praised the cast, screenplay, action sequences, and musical score.

JAWAN Movie Storyline

The jailer of a Mumbai women’s prison named Azad devises a bold scheme to provide the oppressed with justice. He and six other female prisoners take over a Mumbai Metro train, and he demands a hefty amount from the Minister of Agriculture to pay for the loan waiver for struggling farmers. Through the assistance of international arms trader Kalee Gaikwad, who finds his daughter among the detainees, Azad is able to transfer the money and effectively denounce corruption.

Through his daughter Alia, Azad reveals to Kalee his true identity as Vikram Rathore. Following his marriage to NSG officer Narmada Rai, Azad and her partner carry out their task. Azad kidnaps the Health Minister in order to gain access to upgraded government healthcare facilities. But after learning about Azad’s past, Narmada confronts Kalee’s forces, and Azad’s twin Vikram Rathore steps in to save the day.

In a flashback to 1986, Vikram was a commando who was pursuing Kalee for the defective weapons that caused his team’s deaths. After a violent altercation, Vikram and his wrongfully imprisoned wife Aishwarya were split up. Azad was raised by Aishwarya, who gave him the guidance to pursue justice. Presumed dead, Vikram was raised by a tribe after developing amnesia.

As Azad faces threats from Kalee’s henchmen and a betrayal within Narmada’s team, tragedy strikes when one of the captives is killed. Azad retaliates, stealing Kalee’s trucks containing election funds and demanding the closure of polluting factories. With government cooperation, Azad exposes corruption and vows to bring change. The climax unfolds as Vikram regains his memory, and father and son unite to defeat Kalee, seeking justice for past wrongs.

In the aftermath, Azad, now a symbol of justice, is assigned a new mission targeting Swiss banks, further showcasing his commitment to fighting corruption. The story combines action, drama, and a quest for justice, intertwining personal vendettas with a larger mission to uplift the oppressed and cleanse the system.
