Mohanlal plays advocate Vijayamohan in the 2023 Indian Malayalam-language courtroom drama “Neru,” which is directed by Jeethu Joseph and co-written by Santhi Mayadevi. Anaswara Rajan, Priyamani, Santhi Mayadevi, Siddique, Sankar Induchoodan, Jagadish, and K. B. Ganesh Kumar are among the supporting cast members in the movie. Aashirvad Cinemas’ producer, Antony Perumbavoor, first made the project official on July 13, 2023, under the working title Production No. 33. On August 12, 2023, the actual title was revealed.

The core of the courtroom drama was captured during the August–October 2023 principal photography for Neru, which took place in and around Thiruvananthapuram. Vishnu Shyam wrote the film’s music, Satheesh Kurup handled the photography, and V. S. Vinayak handled the editing.

On December 21, 2023, the movie was released in theatres all over the world. Critics praised Jeethu Joseph’s skillful direction and the cast’s outstanding performances, especially those of Mohanlal, Anaswara Rajan, and Siddique. Beyond receiving positive reviews, Neru became a huge commercial success, earning over ₹85 crore globally. Sara Mohammed, a blind girl, experiences a terrifying sexual assault. There is pressure on Sara’s family to accept a settlement, and it appears that the initial probe is pointless. But they turn down the deal because they’re determined to get justice. The case takes unexpected turns when Michael Joseph, the accused, is defended by renowned defence attorney Advocate Rajashekhar.

CI Paul Varghese, the investigating officer, proposes appointing the intelligent but disbarred Vijayamohan as the special public prosecutor. After meeting Sara, Vijayamohan feels obliged to take up the case, despite having a tumultuous past with Rajashekhar.

Rajashekhar uses brutal strategies during the trial, such as witness tampering and character assassination. Since there is no hard proof that connects Michael to the crime, the defence appears to be invincible. His alibi appears to be supported by surveillance evidence, but Vijayamohan reveals manipulation, shocking the public.

Sara’s family continues despite Michael’s threats and media attention. When Vijayamohan reveals the contradictions in Michael’s alibi witnesses, Sara’s special sculpting talent comes into play. Even though Sara’s abilities are questioned, her lifelike sculpture of Rajashekhar proves to be pivotal.

Everyone is shocked when Michael is found guilty based on this unexpected evidence. Sara leaves the courtroom, rejecting anonymity and gaining respect from the public and media alike thanks to Vijayamohan’s legal acumen. The case turns into a victory for justice, revealing the truth and demonstrating the fortitude of those battling overwhelming odds.
