“May December” is a gripping drama film from 2023 that was directed by Todd Haynes and has a moving screenplay by Samy Burch. Actress Elizabeth Berry travels to Savannah, Georgia in 2015 in order to prepare for her next independent film job. Elizabeth will portray Gracie Atherton-Yoo, a 36-year-old who was discovered raping Joe Yoo, a 13-year-old Korean-American student who was Georgie’s schoolmate, in 1992 at the pet store where they both worked. Joe’s child was born while Gracie was serving her sentence in prison. After being married for 23 years, Gracie and Joe have three children: Charlie and Mary, the twins, who are soon to graduate from high school, and Honor, who is attending college.

Elizabeth conducts a relationship interview with Joe and Gracie. Elizabeth reenacts the scene by herself after seeing the stock room where Gracie and Joe were discovered having sex when visiting the pet business where the pair met and worked. She talks with Georgie, Gracie’s current musician husband, Tom, and her defense attorney. In different ways, they present Gracie as innocent and submissive, but they also highlight the harm that came from her deeds.

Joe texts an anonymous acquaintance privately, explaining that they both like raising monarch butterflies as a hobby. He suggests they go on a trip together at one point, but she rejects him by reminding him that he is married.

Elizabeth talks on the intimacy that performers and crew members experience when filming a sex scene at a Q&A session at the twins’ high school. Mary is obviously insulted when Elizabeth admits that she loves to play morally dubious characters.
