Under the banners of T-Series Films, Bhadrakali Pictures, and Cine1 Studios, Bhushan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Krishan Kumar, and Murad Khetani produce Animal, a 2023 Indian action drama film in Hindi that is directed and edited by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and co-written by Saurabh Gupta and Pranay Reddy Vanga. Ranbir Kapoor plays Ranvijay Singh in the movie, an angry young man seeking revenge for an attempt on his father’s life. The story is enhanced by an ensemble cast that includes Triptii Dimri, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Anil Kapoor.

Officially announced in January 2021, principal photography began in April 2022, with Amit Roy as the cinematographer, concluding in April 2023. The movie’s music is composed by JAM8, Vishal Mishra, Jaani, Manan Bhardwaj, Shreyas Puranik, Ashim Kemson, and Harshwardhan Rameshwar. With a runtime of 201 minutes, Animal stands as one of the lengthiest Indian films. Although initially slated for an August 2023 release, the film faced a postponement due to post-production requirements.

Animal premiered on December 1, 2023, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, across standard and IMAX formats. While critical reception was generally mixed, the film achieved remarkable success at the box office, grossing ₹917 crore (US$110 million) worldwide against a ₹100 crore (US$13 million) budget. It shattered numerous box office records for a Hindi film, securing its place as the eighth highest-grossing Indian film. The 69th Filmfare Awards recognized Animal with 19 nominations, including Best Film.

Animal Movie Storyline

Although Balbir Singh, the wealthy businessman who controls the significant steel company Wastik Steels, has a busy schedule that prevents him from spending much time with his family, Ranvijay “Vijay” Singh in Delhi has an extraordinary amount of love for him. When Vijay threatens the bullies of his sister Reet with an AK-47, he gets rid of him and sends him to a boarding school in the US. After years away, Vijay comes home to complete his schooling. He gets into a fight with Varun, Reet’s spouse, and Balbir kicks him out of the house again. After marrying Geetanjali, his childhood sweetheart, Vijay and his family split up and relocated to the United States.

After eight years, after Balbir is shot by assassins, Vijay, Geetanjali, and their two children are returning to India by plane. After making amends with his family, Vijay decides to find out who is behind the assassination; he gathers support from his village relatives and hires a body double for his father, who is ultimately murdered by the assassin, Asrar Haque. When Vijay learns that Varun was involved in the attempted murder, he openly kills him at a conference where Asrar is also present. Later, Vijay meets an arms dealer at a hotel, where hundreds of assailants, lead by Asrar, attack. After taking them all out and killing Asrar, Vijay sustains serious injuries and goes into a vegetative state. He recovers in two weeks but suffers a heart  for his failing heart.

After a few months of recovery, Vijay receives a call from Zoya, his heart donor’s fiancée. Vijay and Zoya begin having an affair. According to Zoya, Abrar Haque, Asrar’s brother, actually sent her to trick him into falling in love. But Vijay had always known this and had followed through to find out who the mastermind was. After letting Zoya go, he finds out from his grandfather Rajdheer Singh that Abrar and his siblings are Vijay’s second cousins; they are the grandchildren of Rajdheer’s younger brother Shamsher. Shamsher committed suicide after Rajdheer had forsaken him for his immoral behavior. Years later, Shamsher’s son Azim, who had converted to Islam, was not given any of Balbir’s possessions. Abrar was so traumatized by seeing his grandfather commit suicide that he went silent. Abrar is now residing in and has been the one plotting against Balbir to seek vengeance for his family.

Abrar is going to leave the nation in a private aircraft with his other brother, Abid, but Vijay and his cousins travel to Scotland and stop him. On the runway, there is a bloody fight that ends with Vijay killing Abrar. During Diwali, back at home, Balbir tells Vijay about his terminal illness and comes to the realization that Vijay’s aggressive behavior has always been a result of his lack of love for his kid. After he apologizes to him, they make up, which makes Vijay cry.
