storyline

Nica, a little child, loses her parents in an automobile accident, leaving her an orphan. After being sent to the harsh Sunnycreek Orphanage, she becomes friends with Adeline, a little girl. Years later, Nica is adopted by Anna and Norman Milligan when she is a teenager. In addition, the couple adopts Rigel, a sullen teenager who makes Margaret, the headmistress, very happy. Rigel is antagonistic with Nica at their new residence. Flashbacks show that Margaret mistreated every child at Sunnycreek—aside from Rigel—both physically and psychologically.Rigel fights with another pupil on their first day of school. Every student anonymously donates a rose to another student as part of Garden Day activities for the students. A black rose, symbolizing a tortured and compulsive love, is given to Nica. Rigel disputes that he gave it to her. Nica receives a date request from a student called Lionel, with whom Rigel subsequently gets into a fistfight. After Nica chastises Rigel for his actions, he experiences a seizure and Nica has to take care of him. The two have a passionate exchange. Retrospectively, it is revealed that Rigel once sliced his own hand to stop Margaret from punishing Nica.

In a classroom during the school dance, Lionel makes an attempt to sexually assault Nica; Rigel steps in to stop him. In the classroom, Nica and Rigel share kisses and intimate moments. A vengeful Lionel tries to run them over with his car after they drive off. They jump into a river from a bridge to get away. When Nica awakens at the hospital, Rigel’s body has broken her fall, and his brain neuromas have made his condition even worse. He is in a coma. Margaret is currently in charge of him after he turned down the Milligans’ adoption. Margaret declares she will never see Nica again and accuses him of putting him in a coma. In a belligerent mood, Nica consents to testify against Margaret.

Later, Nica informs Rigel that they have won the lawsuit when she is in the hospital, and Margaret.
