Sidney Lumet’s 1957 American legal drama film “12 Angry Men” is a masterpiece. The plot centers on a jury comprised of twelve men who must decide the fate of a juvenile suspect in a murder case. The movie examines the dynamics of their discussions as they wrestle with moral quandaries, reasonable doubt, and competing beliefs. In addition to producing the movie, Henry Fonda is in the cast. Other cast members include Lee J. Cobb, Ed Begley, E. G. Marshall, and Jack Warden.
In spite of its lackluster box office results, “12 Angry Men” received positive reviews from critics. It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay at the 30th Academy Awards. Due to its cultural and historical value, this widely regarded masterpiece was added to the U.S. National Film Registry in 2007. In their AFI 10 Top 10, the American Film Institute placed it as the second-best courtroom drama, behind “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
The jury in a New York City murder trial is frustrated by a single member whose skeptical caution forces them to more carefully consider the evidence before jumping to a hasty verdict.

12 Angry Men movie Storyline
An 18-year-old is accused of stabbing his violent father, and the case is being deliberated by a jury in the New York County Courthouse. The judge orders a guilty verdict that carries a mandatory death sentence. jury 8 is the only jury that votes “guilty” at the beginning. One “not guilty” vote emerges from a secret ballot, with Juror 8 calling for further debate.
Juror 8 casts doubt on the veracity of the witnesses, highlighting inconsistencies in the second witness’s testimony brought about by a passing train. Jurors 5, 6, and 8 cast doubt on the timeliness and the death threat’s symbolic meaning. There is a confrontation between Jurors 3 and 8.
Vote changes result from impatience, uncertainties over the defendant’s alibi, and the angle of the stab wound after more consideration. Juror 4 silences Juror 10’s divisive tirade. Juror 4’s persistent focus on the woman across the street as substantial evidence changes following an admission on her regular glasses wear.
When Juror 3’s personal prejudice becomes apparent, he breaks down and confesses that his desire to find his son guilty is a result of their tense relationship. He switches his vote to “not guilty,” which leads to a unanimous decision. Juror 8 assists Juror 3 as the other jurors depart. Off-screen, the defendant is found not guilty, and Jurors 8 and 9 trade names before leaving.
